visit Scott County, Missouri, a Frontier County established in 1821.
Within our County you can enjoy the General Watkins Conservation Area,
City of Chaffee,
Commerce
Historical Museums and
Sikeston-Miner with their
Sikeston Depot
Cultural Museum.
The Scott County Historical & Genealogy
Society has a research room in the Benton, Missouri Library
located on U.S. Highway 61 one block north of the Scott County,
Missouri Court House.
We invite you to visit and use this
resource center during the Library's hours of 1 pm - 6 pm Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 8:00 am - Noon on Saturday.
The Library is closed on Thursdays.

SPECIAL PUBLICATION: We are presently writing a book about the
"One-Room School Houses of Scott County". Anyone with information on any
of the 58 schools please contact Deborah Gunter at
dgunter_1@charter.net or call her at
573-318-4633. We are also looking for pictures of these schools, report
cards, reading certificates, baseball team, etc. Credit will be given for
all items and photos will be returned.

Our
archives and special collections resources are available by appointment only,
not on a drop-in basis.
Research
conducted by members of our volunteer staff is available.
We require a
fee of $10.00 up front before any search activity is initiated. If we are
successful in locating an obituary, death notice, photo, printed article, etc.,
the charge is another $5.00 per object located.
There also may be a small charge for copying,
duplicating, and document scanning of materials requested and located.
All costs must be paid in advance, funds sent
to
Genealogy Society.
