TOWN NEWS From 1928

 

Benton News

L. Waldschmidt was under a doctor’s care this week.

H. D.Rodgers has been sick and unable to be at this place of business.

Vince Heisserer is driving a new Chevrolet coupe that was delivered to him the past week.

Postmaster R. M. Tirmenstein went to St. Louis Friday, his sister being sick at her home there. During his absence Miss Leona looked after the Business of Uncle Sam at this port in her usual efficient manner.

A new Buick brougham is being driven by County Treasurer George J. Arnold. It was delivered the latter part of the week.

 

Blodgett News

The Blodgett Elevator & Grain Co., is building a new Filling Station on the corner where the Marshall Land & Merc. Co’s building burned.

Mrs. Brummit, formerly of Blodgett died March 9th. Funeral services were conducted here by Rev. Crocker of the Baptist Church. Interment was made at Boardman Cemetery.

School Notes

The seniors are working on their annual play to be given in April.

The school board is furnishing free milk and graham crackers at noon each day to the school children who do not bring milk from home. This is indeed highly appreciated by the patrons of our community.

 

 

 

 

Commerce News

Ward Smith has a new Chevrolet sedan.

Hartrell Brock of Benton, is barbering here while Mr. High is away.

This community lost one of its old time families last week when Joe Ellis and wife moved to Cape Girardeau. They had resided here for may years and were prominent in all civic and church affairs.

Quite a member of our citizens were at Benton Tuesday attending court. The cases of Hosea Graham, Finch and Stallings were up for hearing, the youths having been accused of taking Rev. Kincaid’s car last winter.

The Steamer Cape Girardeau made the first trip of the season Saturday.

 

Diehlstadt News

Misses Mary Bradford and Lorraine Perkins, who are attending the Cape Girardeau Business College, came home to spend the weekend with their parents.

Jeff Taylor’s wife, the mother of several children, passed away Saturday morning at two o’clock She was laid to rest in the Oak Grove cemetery near Charleston.

The Diehlstadt girls basketball team won fourth place in the invitation tournament at Sikeston, even though they were handicapped by the absence of their all-star forward, Evelyn Rexer, who was not able to play with the team on account of illness.

 

 

 

Morley News

George Miles has put up a garage in connection with his filling station and will be better able to take care of repair work.

Mrs. Wm. Black was hostess to the M.E. Missionary Society Thursday afternoon a t her home. Seventeen members answered the roll call.

Miss Wilma Ragains president of the Y.P.M.S. entertained with a party at the home of Mrs. J. E. Smith. Each member invited her mother as a guests.

New Hamburg

Frank Miederhoff is working at the Bucher Bros. Saw mill as head sawyer.

John Westrich Jr., is employed by Zeno LeGrand at Benton for the summer.

Louis Goetz loaded some hay at Benton last Tuesday, which he sold to Lee Morrow of Oran.

Oran News

G. C. Blocker moved Thursday of last week from the Poe to the Mrs. Dora Wood property.

R. W. Harper recently sold the dwelling known as the Trinkler property to J. P. Williams and wife.

The Frisco fast train was stopped Friday for Grandpa Maddox, who was taken to St. Louis to the Baptist Sanitarium.

J. F. Crader moved back to Oran this week from Cape.
