Dr. Courtney Kisat, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of History, SEMO University, Cape Girardeau, MO visited the genealogy room of the Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society in the Riverside Regional Library, Benton, MO. She is conducting research on the Poor Farms in Missouri. She met with Lois Spalding, member of the Scott County Historical & Genealogy Society, who shared the history and pictures she has on the Scott County Poor Farm. The Spalding family
supervised the Scott County Poor Farm in the early 1920's through the 1940's. The Poor Farm closed in the 1950's.
