Welcome to the Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society website. The Society’s mission is to promote an understanding of the history of Scott County, Missouri, by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting that history and its relationship to the region, State, Nation and beyond to audiences of all ages and interests.

The Society has a research room in the Benton Riverside Regional Library located on U.S. Highway 61 one block north of the Scott County Courthouse.

The Scott County Historical Society meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. We invite you to join us.

Also, visit Scott County, Missouri. Scott County was founded in 1821 when Missouri became a State. It was named after John Scott the first representative from the area. Benton, its county seat, was named after Thomas Hart Benton, the first senator of Missouri.

Within our County you can enjoy the General Watkins Conservation Area, the City of Chaffee and Commerce Historical Museums, and Sikeston and Miner with their Sikeston Depot Cultural Museum.
