Headstone of Marshall Arnold


This photo is from the Deborah (Gibbs) Gunter collection. Born in St. Francois Co., MO, Marshall Arnold migrated to Commerce, MO shortly after the Civil War where he became City Attorney. By 1880, he was living in Benton and was publisher of the Benton Express. He was elected Prosecuting Attorney and was given credit for driving the carpetbaggers out of Scott County. He was elected to the Missouri Legislature and later to the United States House of Representatives. He is buried in the Benton Cemetery.
